Events in Madeira
Madeira residents like to party, and although the island in the Atlantic Ocean, there are world-class events and festivals here.
Small village and church festivals throughout the year on alternate weekends are held in different villages around the island.
Harvest and agricultural festivals are full of living tradition. The Wine Festival is the best known, but there are also the Onion Festival, Anona Festival, Lemon Festival, and many more.
The Madeirans loves fireworks and the Silvester Fireworks Show is one of the best in the world (listed on the Guinness Book of Records) - the Funchal bay turns into this big and natural amphitheater with sinchronized fireworks coming out of many different spots. Every Saturday during the four weekends of June, the Fireworks Festival do Atlântico takes place.
In April, Madeira hosts the Film Festival, for short films with international reputation.
Funchal Jazz Festival in the summer (July) brings many know jazz musicians and fans from all over the world.
Carnival and Flower Festival attract thousands of visitors to the island to assist these two big parades.
